Greybrooke Garden Club
Supporting Beautiful Landscaping in Neighborhoods in Our Community
About Us
The Greybrooke Garden Club was founded by a group of 15 women in the Greybrooke housing plan (Allison Park, Pennsylvania) who became interested in forming a garden club. They were motivated by a desire to increase their knowledge of horticulture and flower arranging and to share their common enjoyment of gardening. The club held its first official meeting November 21, 1969. In 1970, the club became associated with the Garden Club Federation of Pennsylvania and the National Garden Clubs, Inc. The celebration of our 50th anniversary in 2019 provided the opportunity to share special moments of our history with newer members and our garden club friends.
We hold monthly membership meetings, featuring knowledgeable speakers on a multitude of gardening topics. The club also conducts field trips and special events throughout the year. Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday of each month at 9:30 a.m. at Parkwood United Presbyterian Church, 4289 Mount Royal Boulevard, Allison Park, PA 15101 , unless otherwise specified. Please see the "Events" tab for a detailed listing of upcoming events, meetings and field trips.
The Club pursues civic beautification projects in the community, which include: maintaining a garden at the UPMC Passavant Hospital, maintaining a large courtyard area year-round at Orion Personal Care Residence, maintaining the gardens at Concordia of Wexford, promoting community pride by awarding a “Garden of the Month” in the Greybrooke community, and awarding a regional “Outstanding Garden of the Month” in the North Hills community.
In 2001, the Club established a relationship with the Orion Personal Care Residence. We not only maintain the courtyard garden there but also provide a Valentine's Day card and candy celebration for the residents as well as host a December holiday party. Greybrooke Garden Club is a nonprofit organization. Through our fundraising activities, the club provides financial support to gardening, horticultural, community and conservation organizations. We also support other worthy charitable organizations including food pantries and sustainable gardens. For a complete list of organzations that are recipients of club donations, click here. Fundraising activities include and annual Mother's Day Plant Sale at McCandless Crossing on the Saturday of Mother's Day weekend and an annual Fall Mums Sale, also at McCandless Crossing, in early to mid-September. For more information about these and other special events, please see the "Events" page.
